Get to Know Me
I am a young quadriplegic who finds great solace in writing. I have loved literature since I learned to read at age three. At age thirteen, I began to write as an outlet for my severe depression, anorexia, and insomnia; I would write poetry that I never shared with anyone because it was too personal.
Upon graduating high school, I finally allowed my high school English teacher to peruse what I believed to be my best work. She gave me my first glimmer of confidence in my writing--as she still does today. Since my accident in September of 2018, I have faced many challenges in order to survive and my progress is beyond what doctors could have foreseen at the time of my injury. Facing the struggle of my physical limitations, I turned back to the escape that words give me. I have adjusted well as someone who can’t walk or use their fingers. I write with a stylus threaded through my fingers, and it’s the greatest form of therapy I have. It gives my mind something to focus on besides the physical limitations I face. I write as though I will combust if the words don’t come out. With this in mind, I am now pursuing a life as a full time writer.
