"Forgotten Gods" by ST Bratton, CM Raymond, and LE Barbant is an eight part series depicting the story of Vic Stratton, a common thief with a vendetta. Five years prior to where this story begins, her parents were murdered in cold blood by a gangster named Rocco Durant. She's spent every shred of time and effort until a Roman centurion enters her life from a place called Carcerum, claiming the God King is dead and the Earth would soon be overrun with gods causing destruction. Fast forwarding through Book One...Vic is chosen to be the hero to take on the gods head on all while evading FBI Agent Deacon St. Clare, who is hot on her tail. Facing Rocco Durant at the end, who has been transformed into some sort of super vampire, she succeeds in defeating her first supernatural foe and her original enemy. The Roman centurion, Marcus, meets a fatal end from a wound by the death god, Lorcan––who dies later in the series.
Now I'd prefer not to give away too many spoilers, but the plot rise and fall in each book is relatively the same. She is presented with a challenge, and she defeats it at the end of the book. In all honesty, the last book was my favorite because she finally shows her weakness as a human and is defeated in the middle of the book. She barely escapes with her life from the final boss, and has to retreat to recover her with. Only then can she return and gather the courage to kill the last God.
Overall, I would recommend this book series to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy series. Some monotony of the plot did bore me for a little while, but I was determined to see the series through, and I'm certainly glad that I did. 4 out of 5 stars in my opinion.
